Tucson Water Department is planning for a large water treatment plant to treat Central AZ Project (CAP) water to maintain a Total Dissolved Solids level of less than 450 mg/l. The process selected was Ion Exchange followed by Reverse Osmosis of recovered water. Evaluation of Concentrate treatment included evaporation, augmented evaporation, evapotranspiration, V-SEP, injection wells, interstage lime treatment and brine concentrators. Bench testing of membranes and ion exchange were conducted as part of the test to verify design values used in the evaluation.
Capacity: 50 mgd
Technology: Microfiltration, Ion Exchange and Reverse Osmosis
SPI was responsible for evaluation of water quality and for providing concept design of Ion Exchange, Reverse Osmosis, and brine treatment alternatives.
