The award winning Groundwater Replenishment System is an indirect potable reuse project. The project produces 100 million gallons per day (mgd) of water with an ultimate final capacity of 130 mgd. The project will recharge the groundwater basin as well as protect it from seawater intrusion. The GWR System treats clarified secondary effluent, previously discharged into the ocean, using submerged Microfiltration, Reverse Osmosis, and advanced oxidation (UVAOP). This facility is recognized worldwide in terms of production capacity, water quality, and is a test bed for innovative treatment technologies.
SPI has been involved with the OCWD and the GWRS since the early 1980s. SPI has been relied upon by OCWD for our expertise in membrane technology. From the original design to the final expansion, SPI has been a reliable source for OCWD for all things membrane.
